New Starters 2025
Nursery Transition
Starting Nursery can be daunting for all involved. At Burnopfield Primary School, we work closely with our parents to ensure this is a smooth process through a gradual approach.

For those children starting in our Nursery it is a huge step, and an important part of their learning journey. Before children start with us, our Nursery staff offer visits in our Nursery setting. This is the perfect opportunity for positive relationships to be established in the comfort of a quiet environment.
Step 1: A 30 minute introductory visit with a parent, arranged with the Nursery teacher prior to the children starting.
Step 2: 2 hour visit without parents.
Step 3: Full 3 hour session without parents.
Further information will be outlined in your welcome letter from our Nursery teacher which you will receive in May/June. This will also include information about our 30 hour provision and eligibility.
Here are some key dates for your diary:

Wednesday 25th June 2025 at 5pm
Our new Nursery parents are invited to attend an information open evening. This will give you an opportunity to meet the staff, explore the Nursery setting, find out key information in preparation for September, and have a coffee and chat with other new parents to Burnopfield Nursery. This is an informal session where you will be able to talk to relevant staff or discuss your child with our Nursery teacher or SENDCo, Mrs Marley.
Tuesday 2nd - Friday 5th September 2025
During these first few days our Nursery teacher will carry out the pre arranged Nursery visits. Our Nursery teacher will contact parents to arrange times and give further information.
Week Beginning Monday 8th September 2025
Nursery children will start their sessions this week following a staggered, and gradual approach. Our Nursery teacher will communicate timings and dates with our new parents during the Summer Term.
Reception Transition
Children attend our Reception setting from a wide catchment area. Most children have previously attended our Nursery provision, but there are a number of children who join us from other Nurseries. Our Reception staff work closely with each Nursery to obtain information about each child, we sometimes go and visit the children in the Nursery settings during the Summer term before starting in Reception when requested by the Nursery or the parents.
During the Summer Term we invite the children starting Reception to attend taster sessions. Children are given the chance to explore all areas of the provision, including our Classroom, Outdoor Learning Area and Adventure Garden, and meet the staff that will be caring for them during their time in Reception at Burnopfield.
Throughout June and July our Reception Team will send out information posters to parents via email to support the transition process over the Summer Holidays. This is a perfect way to get to know our staff, and the environment they will soon be settled into.
